Sydney’s Hour of Action for Israel

Sydney Hagshama leads the way for Israel advocacy, education & support in her hour of need. Over 150 participants of all ages of the community attended this heartfelt event in show of their support and eagerness to stand up for Israel.

On Sunday the 6th of June, following the unbelievable amount of backlash Israel received after the 'Flotilla Event', there was a sense of Israel's isolation in the air. As lovers of Israel in the Diaspora, we felt the need to educate anyone that was willing to listen. Hagshama invited the Sydney community to come together to advocate, educate & support Israel.

The "Hour of Action" concentrated not only on discussion of the flotilla, but also on the ACTION of being heard. Participants had a choice of which workshops they would like to attend, which was a variety of how to advocate for Israel and learning more about the incident. Hagshama provided an amazing diversity of guests speakers that addressed the following topics:

'Face the Facts' by Ron Weiser, Committee Member, Jewish Agency for Israel

'Embassy Israel Update' by Dor Shapira, Spokesperson, Embassy of Israel

'Confrontation on Campus' by Joel Einstein & Angela Zinn, ZYC Chairperson

'Online Defence' by Danny Rod, AUJS NSW Chairperson

'Viability of a Rally" by Glen Falkenstein, AUJS Vice-Chairperson
'Letter to the Editor' by Daniel Meyerowitz-Katz, Policy Analyst, AIJAC

'Legal Implications' by Arsen Ostrovsky, Stand With Us Committee

The event enabled participants to voice their opinions, whilst also being guided in methods of advocacy to combat the media and handling any confrontation in the workplace or on campus and ultimately made the community stronger.
