Target Population: Any tourist in Israel between the ages of 18 and 35 can become a kibbutz volunteer. To participate in a Kibbutz Ulpan you must be between the ages of 17.5-28.
Special Requirements: A medical exam.
Description
Kibbutz Volunteering: The kibbutz population accepts volunteers for a minimum period of 2 months and a maximum of six months. The program is open all year round. In the kibbutz, the volunteers live and breathe the kibbutz atmosphere, and during their stay they benefit from many of the social and material advantages of the kibbutz. The opportunity to take part in the unique lifestyle of the kibbutz community is found no where else in the world. The choice of jobs available depends on the kibbutz, the season, the volunteer’s skills and the length of his/her stay.
Kibbutz Ulpan: "Kibbutz Ulpan" is an established program with a reputation for excellence among thousands of program graduates around the world. The program is sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Israel, the Kibbutz Movement, and the Israeli Ministry of Education. "Kibbutz Ulpan" aims to provide young adults with Hebrew language skills and to acquaint them with Israeli society and culture. The program combines study and work in a kibbutz community. Through their work, the participants defray a part of the expense of the program and learn about the kibbutz way of life. The program is partially subsidised by the Jewish Agency for Israel. Participants are required to pay a fee for registration, insurance and tuition. Duration of the Program: Five months (155 days) . All participants are required to present medical certification of sound mental and physical health, able to perform light physical labor. Program Components: 24 hours per week of Hebrew language study 24 hours per week of work in various branches of the kibbutz Social events Seminars, lectures and field trips Five day seminar "The Israel Defense Forces and Israeli Society" (for new immigrants only)
The New Israeli Experience: "The new Israeli experience" is a two month program on a kibbutz with lHebrew studies and lectures on cultural, historical and political aspects of The State of Israel. The Israeli Experience aims to expose its participants to Israeli society through five different elements: Lectures that will be held twice a week in the evening on subjects such as Israeli history, the different religions in Israel, Israeli culture and the political situation. Guided tours that are usually half-day include visiting historical and cultural sites in Israel. There is at least one two-day tour. Absorption: The participants are invited to take part in kibbutz social activities such as Jewish Holy days, weddings and Independence Day celebrations. The kibbutz provides the volunteer with all necessities and access to all kibbutz facilities.The kibbutz pub is available to the participants as well as the gym, the tennis courts, the basket ball/ football courts and the swimming pool (in the summer). Responsibilities: The KPC urges all the participants in their program to insure all their valuables against theft. The kibbutz is only responsible for the valuables that are deposited in the kibbutz safe. Health insurance: The participants on The Israeli Experience are requested to purchase our kibbutz volunteers health insurance. The insurance is valid as long as the volunteers are on the kibbutz (up to one year), and covers all kinds of medical emergencies.
