Preparations for the evening:
- Prepare a room for the event.
- Make sure there are people who can help you with the production.
- Attached is a file for a publicity poster you can distribute before the event. Fill in the details of the event (in the space provided) on the poster.
- Find a host for the event and make sure he/she is well prepared.
- Make sure you have all the special equipment you need.
- The kit has a total of five games (five sets of questions) – five contestants in the main game.
Diagram of how to set up the room:
- Audience
- Stage
- Host
- Contestant *
- Phone-a-friend
- Computer station and projector (facing the host)
- Screen
* The contestant should sit with his back to the audience so that he can see the screen and so that he cannot receive hints from the audience.
Rules of the game:
The purpose of the game is to answer as many questions as possible in order to accumulate as much “money” as possible.
In order to choose the contestants you must conduct a preliminary round.
Preliminary stage:
- For this part ten potential participants are chosen from the audience / registered in advance (at your discretion).
- All participants receive a sheet of paper for writing their answers.
- Attached is a PowerPoint file with questions for the preliminary stage.
- Participants in this stage should write their answers on the paper.
- The contestant to give in his answers first and has solved his answer correctly is the first contestant for the evening and plays the first round of the game.
- In the case of a tie, a “tie-breaker” question will be asked.
- Every contestant who comes up to play the game must designate a “Phone-a-Friend” who sits separately from the audience.
The main quiz:
- The questions for this stage are arranged in ascending order of difficulty. The question for 100 is easier than the question for 1,000, and so on.
- At each level the host must read the question and all of the possible answers.
- At each level the contestant must answer correctly in order to proceed to the next level.
- The host must click on the correct answer ( and not the contestant).
- If the contestant does not know the answer, he has several life preservers at his disposal.
- How the lifelines function:
- 50:50 – If the contestant chooses this lifeline he must click the function on the screen. The computer will decide which of the two answers will be removed. Now the contestant must give his answer.
- Audience – If the contestant chooses to ask the audience, the question is asked of the audience and the entire audience is asked to raised one of four cards they are holding (marked A to D). Now the contestant must decide which answer to choose (based on what the audience thinks). The audience will have up to 1 minute to make up its mind. The contestant is not required to accept the answer of the majority.
- Phone-a-friend – If the contestant chooses this lifeline the host turns to the friend (who was chosen in advance and is sitting on the side) and asks him the question. The friend has about 1 minute to give his answer (he can also explain to the contestant why he chose a particular answer). The contestant is not obligated to accept the answer of the phone-a-friend.
- The moment the contestant does not know and answer / answers incorrectly, he is disqualified, he is thanked for his participation (with audience applause) and the next contestant begins to play.
- The next contestant is chosen in the same manner as the first contestant, by conducting the preliminary stage once again.
- The kit has a total of five games (five sets of questions) – five contestants in the main game.
- The winner of the evening is the contestant who scored the most points.
- That contestant moves on to the next stage, in which he can win a trip to Israel and be hosted by a special students’ delegation in honor of Israel’s 60th anniversary.
- At the end of the evening we ask that you send the personal details of the winner so we can contact him for the next stage – to millionaire60@gmail.com
- For questions and clarifications contact: millionaire60@gmail.com
Comments:
- This event is based on the television game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” In
order to make it an authentic experience, there are several essential
elements:
- A host for the game:
- Make sure that the host chosen reviews the questions before the event and can explain all of the concepts appearing in the questions, in case the contestants need some clarifications. Don’t forget that this event is also supposed to be educational so the more the host can explain the concepts the better – and then we win!
- The host must know how to run the game – it isn’t complicated, but it is recommended that he practice a little in advance. The web site has a practice game.
- The host must be articulate and entertaining. People’s enjoyment of the game depends on him.
- The host must dress properly for a television game show host.
- The host must know the rules of the game.
- If a contestant asks for an explanation of concepts appearing in the questions, he should be given as detailed an explanation as possible without helping him with the answer.
- The host must explain the rules of the game at every stage.
Technical equipment for the event:
Prearranging all the technical equipment required will help avoid technical problems on the evening of the event itself.
- Portable computer with the game software.
- The question file.
- A projector and screen.
- Cable to connect the computer to the speakers (there is music).
- Microphones for the host and the contestant.
- A stage (optional).
- Scenery (attached).
- Camera – so the pictures can be uploaded to the Internet…
- Staff:
In order to make the event a success make sure the staff for the evening includes the following jobs (naturally one person can have several jobs):
- Assistant for the host
- Someone in charge of technical equipment
- Someone to be in charge of the audience
- Someone to be responsible for checking the contestants’ answers during the preliminary stage.
- Someone in charge of the phone-a-friends.
- Photographer
Winners of each event must be reported by mid March 2008
