We thank you for your interest in expressing solidarity with the residents Southern Israel and in raising international awareness of this issue.
Solidarity and awareness-raising are an ongoing task. Nevertheless, in order to generate world-wide resonance, The Hagshama Department is encouraging its activists and friends to act for the sake of the residents of the southern Israel and IDF soldiers
One way in which you can take part in this campaign is by setting up information booths on campus - the main thing is that they gain wide exposure.
This kit will provide you with instructions and tools for setting up an information booth.
How to set up an information booth:
- Activist recruitment: Find suitable activists. The more people you mobilize for the task, the more successful you will be in raising awareness on campus. Consider joining forces with other organizations.
- Finding a venue: Information booths have the advantage of being alive and dynamic, accessible to all and prominently placed. You have to find the location that you feel is most conducive to exposure, e.g. the campus lawn, next to the library, next to the cafeteria, near the dorms, etc. All necessary authorizations should be obtained for the information booth.
- Setting dates and times: It is important to think about the day of week and time of day for which you schedule your activity. The date should be appropriate for your particular campus in terms of the number of people you are likely to reach.
- Publicity: Where necessary, you should publicize the existence, date and location of the information booth.
- Logistics: Information booths are not hard to set up, and they are highly effective. The logistical equipment needed can be found on any college campus, and no great investment is needed. The basic booth can be upgraded to whatever degree your resources allow.
Basic equipment:
- Tables: Tables to serve as the focal point of the informational activity.
- Signs: Signs can be found here on the website.
Great importance should be attached to the design of the information booth and to the way in which the signs are hung. You should make sure the information is displayed for maximum visibility and that it is not blocked by the people who come to the booth. - Information pages: Available on the website. These pages may be expanded on.
- Audio equipment: The “noise” made by an information booth is frequently what attracts passersby. Amplification equipment can be basic (computer/iPod speakers); the more sophisticated the equipment, the more people you will be likely to attract.
- Electrical outlet: Some components of the information booth require electricity; please make sure that you have the necessary features (a nearby electrical outlet, outlet splitters, extension cords, etc.).
Optional equipment:
- Computer/screen: On this site you can download short films and a visual presentation on the situation in Southern Israel.
These materials make a strong impression and are effective in raising awareness and deepening the viewer’s sense of solidarity. You should make certain that suitable amplification equipment is available. - Shirts: Bold-colored shirts (preferably red) will enhance the information booth’s visibility. You can use one of the campaign logos (download and have printed on shirts).
- Megaphone/microphone: These items are helpful in reaching a wider audience and making more people aware of the booth’s existence.
- Whistles: Whistles are a good way of raising awareness.
Contents of the kit:
